Over the last two decades a group of people have been working to establish Steiner Waldorf Education in the Calder Valley. We moved into our current building, the St. Johns Centre, Cragg Vale in 2009. Parents and staff have worked hard to transform the old Sunday School building and garden into a beautiful school for our children. In September 2011 we became officially registered as an Independent School, and are now able to offer a full-time Steiner Waldorf education for children aged 6 and over once they leave the kindergarten. We aim to be inclusive, welcoming children from all abilities, faiths, and backgrounds so that this wonderful education is available to all. The school is affiliated to the Steiner Waldorf Schools Fellowship and as such is part of a worldwide network of schools that have been successfully educating in this unique way for over 90 years.
We are a limited company as well as being a registered charity. Our organisation is an association called Calder Valley Steiner Education (which runs Calder Valley Steiner School) which is open to all who support the aims and ideals of Steiner Education. All parents and friends are members of the association, CVSE. The Steiner Ethos is one of community and the school encourages parents to be part of the school community and contribute to the up keep and running of the school. There are a number of school support groups which parents are encouraged to be part of, i.e. fundraising, making crafts and gardening. These groups are a great way to really connect with other parents and the school really benefits from their achievements.
